Community College Saved Me From a Career Selling Thighmasters at Swap Meets

Poet Laureat Kay Ryan, who has taught remedial English at community colleges for more than 30 years, said this:

“I simply want to celebrate the fact that right near your home, year in and year out, a community college is quietly—and with very little financial encouragement—saving lives and minds,” said Ryan. “I can’t think of a more efficient, hopeful or egalitarian machine, with the possible exception of the bicycle.”

I believe wholeheartedly that if it wasn’t for community colleges I’d still be hawking the latest $19.95 health device that you can use while eating a hoagie and watching NCIS.
